Care ManagementJewish Family Service of Metrowest |
Martha Bass,LICSW, elder specialist for Jewish Family Service of Metrowest, helps elders stay safe and independent in their own homes as long as possible, and when necessary, to choose an appropriate residential facility.
| “Ideally, families would talk far in advance about what kind of care they would prefer to receive as they age. It becomes difficult to sort out wishes and intentions when there’s a crisis and everyone is pressured to act quickly. Although it’s an uncomfortable topic, it’s easier to discuss when everyone is well and healthy. We can help.” Martha Bass,LICSW (508) 875-3100 MBass@jfsmw.org |
Bass can mediate between elders and their adult children when appropriate, often in situations where one person lives out-of-state. Interaction with a professional is often less emotionally charged than family interaction. She often counsels families when an elderly relative is moving to the Metrowest area and she facilitates the logistics of the move.
Every person’s needs are unique. Drawing on her 15 years of experience in social work, Bass individually assesses each situation and tailors a care package of services provided by Jewish Family Service of Metrowest and/or other agencies.
While the challenges of aging and caregiving can be overwhelming, the support of a care manager can make a world of difference. Bass encourages families not to wait for a crisis, but rather to establish a relationship with a local care manager who will understand their situation and help them prepare for the future.
