It’s hard enough being 8 years old. But when Avelo (“AJ” to friends and family) gets up for school, his mother is not there, having already left for a job that starts at 5 am. Big sister Tina helps get him ready, but then he must walk three blocks through one of the area’s toughest and most drug- and crime-riddled neighborhoods before he can find breakfast, and a chance for a better life, at Framingham’s Woodrow Wilson School.
