SEIZE THE DREAM 2017
We celebrate these extraordinary individuals
who stand up for children, families and elders
throughout Metrowest and Greater Boston; as well
as caring deeply for children and refugee families
throughout the United States and the world.
We invite you to join Jewish Family Service of Metrowest in celebrating Artemis, Michelle, Joe and JFS for their unwavering commitment to the world’s and our community’s refugees and immigrants.
There could never be better timing for this commitment to and celebration of refugees and immigrants.
The reality that fills our minds with worry ever day is being addressed by the work of Artemis Joukowsky and JFS and by Joe and Michelle’s community commitments to children.
JFS is leading the JFS Syrian Refugee Humanitarian Project. This humanitarian project is a coalition across eastern Massachusetts that includes Synagogues, Islamic Centers, Academia and the Medical community to provide safety, hope and opportunity to Syrian war refugees.
These are stories of young children; these families are victims of war and have experienced great hardship after fleeing for their lives to Jordan and Turkey.
JFS serves hundreds of other immigrants in our community each year. JFS especially identifies with Artemis and his Defying the Nazis: The Sharps’ War. http://www.defyingthenazis.org/
Joe Blumenfeld and Michelle Paster
Joe Blumenfeld and Michelle Paster live in Natick and are very involved in leadership at both The Rashi School and Temple Beth Elohim. Michelle has served on the Executive Committee and the Board of Rashi. They both have been involved with AIPAC for 25 years, and support a host of Boston Jewish organizations including Combined Jewish Philanthropies, Gateways, and Jewish Family Children Services.
They have two children -- Yael is in eighth grade at Rashi and Shoshana is in tenth grade at Gann Academy.
Joe is on the UNICEF New England Board of Directors and formerly served on the Board of a Children’s Advocacy organization.
He is currently involved with media and communication strategy related to the JFS Syrian Refugee Humanitarian Project.
Artemis Joukowsky, III
Artemis Joukowsky, III is a filmmaker and private investor who has acted as a venture capitalist, asset advisor, entrepreneur, non-profit activist and film director and producer for the past 30 years. Artemis' latest film and book, Defying the Nazis: The Sharps' War, tells the story of his grandparents, Martha and Waitstill Sharp who played a significant role in the relief and rescue of displaced and endangered World War II refugees. This is a story with immediate relevance to our community and its commitments to refugees and immigrants.
